Next January 7th - 14th 2006. Flying
from Cork to gran Canaria
Hugely successful trip to the Canaries in
January 2005.
We flew from Cork Airport to Las Palmas (Gran
Canaria) and bused to Puerto Mogan.
Day one: shake down sail along the SW coast
of Gran Canaria to get all crew settled and get to know the boat.
Plenty of tacking, gybing and MOB recoveries in 22 degrees!
Day two: early start for crew as all mustered
on deck at 0430!Warm balmy night with spectacular sky of stars,
unfortunately not much breeze so a lot of motor sailing to keep
up our VMG. Not long after dawn we were greeted by many dolphins
playing around our bow wave, later in the afternoon we were treated
to the sight of whales!Arrived in San Sebastian on the island of
la Gomera at 1800.
Day three: Some crew went sailing along the
coast of La Gomera and others explored the Nation Park (INLAND!!),
some retracted Columbus' foot steps before he set sail to "discover
a short cut to India"!!
Day four: lazy morning and late breakfast
then we headed down the coast for Santiago.
Day Five: another early start for crew as
we departed San Sebastian at 0300. Beautiful starry night, with
shooting stars and phosphorescence sparkling in the water!Arrived
Puerto Rico at 1730
Day Six: Sailed along the coast of Gran Canaria
doing lots of sailing maneouvres, tacking, gybing, heave too, MOB,
lying etc with a, by now, very slick crew!
