For sailors wishing to gain practical department of marine
certification we run special weeklong
yachtmaster offshore practical exam prep courses.
This course is run in a live aboard capacity.The
course goes through all elements of the exam both theory and practical
maneouvres, however it is strongly recommended that each candidate
has undertaken the yachtmaster shorebased course prior to attempting
the exam.
Prerequisite requirements
1. The following logged in a sailing yacht within 10 years of the
exam.
a. 3000 miles.
b. 50 days at sea, of which 6 days must have been as skipper.
c. 30 night hours on watch.
d. 6 varied passages greater than 60 miles in length, on 2 of which
you must have been skipper.
2. Where a candidate holds a course completion certificate from
an ISA Yachtmaster Offshore shorebased course, then the logged requirements
are as follows:
a. 2500 miles.
b. 50 days at sea, of which 6 days must have been as skipper.
c. 30 night hours on watch.
d. 6 varied passages greater than 60 miles in length, on 2 of which
you must have been skipper.
3. Mileage completed during ISA certified sea based courses may
be included in the logged requirements
4. Restricted Certificate of Competency in Radiotelephony (VHF only)
or SRC Module 1
5. Approved Sea Survival Course Completion Certificate.
6. Approved current First Aid Certificate
7. The candidate must be at least 18 years of age at the time of
assessment.
These courses are run over a weeklong period with practical examination
by an ISA Yachtmaster Examiner on the final day/night.
